Frequently Asked Questions
How does the laser toenail fungus treatment procedure work?
The procedure involves the use of a patented and specially designed laser technology created by a company named Pinpointe FootLaser. The laser itself works by shining through the infected toenails and destroying the fungal infection living in your nail bed and nail plate. It is this infection that causes toenail fungus. The Pinpointe Footlaser is operated by a certified technician in a controlled environment, and on an outpatient basis.
Is the laser toenail fungus treatment procedure painful?
There is no pain or discomfort during or after the procedure. Some patients may feel a very slight pressure resembling a pinprick, but there is rarely any feeling whatsoever. The laser has absolutely no effect on healthy tissue, thereby making it completely safe.
How long will my laser toenail fungus treatment procedure take?
The length of the procedure itself depends on the number of infected toenails, but typically takes 30-45 minutes. It takes around 10 minutes to treat a big toe, and slightly less time to treat the smaller toes. The majority of patients require only a single treatment to completely remove the infection.
Is this laser procedure safe?
In a word….yes. To date, all clinical studies have shown no adverse reactions, no injuries, disabilities and even no known side effects. In opposition, the use of available medications for treatment of nail fungus comes with increased risks of systemic problems in the liver and kidneys. The Pinpointe Footlaser treatment has no associated risks of these kinds.
I don’t like to take drugs. Are there any drugs involved in this procedure?
There are no drugs, anesthetic or topical ointments required.
How soon will my toenail healing be completed?
The toenail will generally completely grow out and replace itself every
6 to 12 months. Most patients show healthy new growth to be visible
within the first 3 months.
This sounds too good to be true. Is it more effective than Lamisil?
The clinical case studies to date have found that over 88% of patients who undergo the procedure show significant improvement, if not completely being cured. In most patients the nail fungus pathogen is completely eliminated and requires only minimal care and maintenance on the patient’s part to be completely successful. Lamisil and other oral anti-fungal medication have a documented success rate of 60-70%.
How soon will I be able to walk after the treatment procedure?
This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, and needs no recuperation period. You literally can walk out of the treatment and resume your daily activities immediately
Will insurance pay for my treatment procedure?
While we offer the initial consultation for treatment without charge, the procedure itself is not covered by most insurance carriers. In some cases, the procedure is covered as an eligible medical expense under flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts. Check with your individual
carrier for verification.
Do you accept financing ?
